PKK tension in Parliament: Heated debate between DEM and IYI Party
Tensions rose in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) following the PKK's decision to lay down arms and disband. IYI Party's Turhan Çömez reacted sharply to the “peace”-focused remarks of DEM Party's Gülistan Koçyiğit. Microphones were turned off during the tension between the two.
As the repercussions of the terrorist organization PKK's decision to lay down arms and disband continue, a heated debate took place in the TBMM General Assembly between DEM Party's Gülistan Koçyiğit and IYI Party's Turhan Çömez.
DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Koçyiğit stated, "This is the only place, and they are the only group, that characterizes defending peace as a crime. We will defend peace to the end, even if it costs us our lives."

"WE WILL CONTINUE TO STAND AGAINST THOSE WHO TAKE ORDERS FROM TERRORISTS"
IYI Party Balıkesir Deputy Turhan Çömez responded sharply to Koçyiğit's remarks. Çömez attacked the DEM Party from the podium, saying, "We will continue to stand against terror. We will stand against those who come together with terrorists and take orders from terrorists. We will also object to the imperial extensions behind terrorists and terrorist organizations, and to those who give them orders. While we want everyone in this country to be equal, first-class citizens and to live in peace, you are fed by Qandil. You have not once been able to utter a single word to condemn terror."

As the tension between the two escalated, the microphones of both Koçyiğit and Çömez were turned off.
WHAT HAPPENED?
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated in an announcement at the Party Headquarters on May 9, "It is a matter of time before the PKK announces that it has convened its congress. This is an important step. What follows this step will also be important."
Shortly after Doğan's statement, the terrorist organization PKK announced that it had convened its congress on May 5-7. On May 12, the terrorist organization PKK announced that it had disbanded itself and laid down its arms.
