Presidential High Advisory Board Member Cemil Çiçek calls for 'common sense' regarding the judicial crisis

The repercussions continue following the Court of Cassation's 3rd Criminal Chamber's ruling not to implement the Constitutional Court's (AYM) 'rights violation' decision regarding imprisoned TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay, and its decision to file a criminal complaint against the members of the Constitutional Court.

ÇİÇEK: IT BRINGS SERIOUS PROBLEMS

Former Parliament Speaker, former Minister of Justice, and current member of the Presidential High Advisory Board Cemil Çiçek commented on the Court of Cassation's criminal complaint against AYM members, stating: "If those who are supposed to solve the problem in Turkey become the primary source of the problem, this brings serious difficulties with it." 

Speaking to Hürriyet columnist Sedat Ergin, Çiçek issued a call for common sense.

Çiçek said, "In Turkey, reference is often made to experience, but no one resigns from experience. Because in Turkey, experience has no value. If we opened an experience store, we would struggle to pay the rent because experience has no customers. If it did, all these sad events we are experiencing would not happen over and over again."  

Çiçek used the expression, “If two clay pots collide, one breaks and the other cracks. In the end, both become useless. Therefore, they need to think seriously in order not to suffer such a fate by exercising their authority, and not to harm the country.”

Stating that “Turkey has experienced similar difficulties in the past,” Çiçek continued:

“A reasonable path is always found; the society relaxes, and the tension softens to a certain extent. As long as experience is valued. The law finds a remedy for everything. However, the tension must first return to normal. The law is supreme. No institution in the judiciary is superior to another; what is superior is the law and justice. In this sense, if a superiority must be sought, it is the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey), because it is the TBMM that founded the state.”
