Prison sentence for high-ranking MHP official

It has emerged that MHP Central Executive Committee (MYK) member Mesut Samanlı was sentenced to 6 months and 22 days in prison in a trial where he was charged with threatening and insulting a school principal in the Hekimhan district of Malatya. After his sentence was finalized, Samanlı was elected as a member of the MYK at the 14th Ordinary Grand Congress of the MHP held on March 17, 2024.

THE TRIAL LASTED 9 YEARS

According to a report by Ferhat Yaşar from Duvar, a company owned by Mesut Samanlı was handling the catering and cleaning services for the Kurşunlu Regional Boarding Primary School in the Hekimhan district of Malatya in 2015.

School principal M.U. filed a report against the company on the grounds that some services were not being provided properly. Reacting to this, Samanlı allegedly called school principal M.U. on March 11, 2015, and, accompanied by profanities, used the expressions, "We will burn you too. You are dead, you are finished. We will not fulfill these conditions either."

EXTENSIVE CRIMINAL RECORD

Following the threat, school principal M.U. filed a criminal complaint against Samanlı. The Malatya Hekimhan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment against Samanlı on May 21, 2015, on charges of "threat and insult." During the trial process at the Hekimhan Criminal Court of First Instance, it was revealed that Samanlı had previously been convicted of similar crimes and had an extensive criminal record.

PRISON SENTENCE FINALIZED

In 2020, the court sentenced Mesut Samanlı to 1 year and 3 months in prison for the crime of insult and 9 months for the crime of threat. Samanlı appealed this decision, and the file was moved to the Court of Cassation. On January 24, 2023, the 4th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation overturned the decision due to "failure to evaluate in terms of simple trial procedure." However, in the retrial held on September 16, 2023, Samanlı was sentenced to 6 months and 22 days in prison for the crime of 'insulting a public official.' This sentence has also been finalized.

ELECTED TO MYK MEMBERSHIP

After the sentence was finalized, Mesut Samanlı was elected as a member of the Central Executive Committee at the 14th Ordinary Grand Congress of the MHP held on March 17, 2024.
