Proposal from Mansur Yavaş to mayors! 'Those who rejected it went to the political scrapheap'
Re-elected as Ankara Metropolitan Mayor with 60 percent of the vote, Mansur Yavaş stated, "I will make a proposal saying, 'Let's join hands and serve the entirety of Ankara together.' Those who rejected this proposal in the past have now gone to the political scrapheap; almost all of them are gone."
Turkey has left the March 31 Local Elections behind.
According to unofficial results, the Republican People's Party (CHP) became the leading party nationwide with 37.77 percent of the vote, also winning numerous metropolitan, provincial, and district municipalities.
Mansur Yavaş, whom the CHP nominated again in Ankara, secured a significant vote margin over his rival Turgut Altınok. Reaching 60 percent of the vote, Yavaş was re-elected as the Ankara Metropolitan Mayor.
Following the election, Yavaş met with tradespeople at an iftar dinner held at the Great Ankara Wholesale Market and thanked all citizens.
"We went through an election, but unfortunately, as always, those who could not talk about their services or promises as we entered the final two days tried to talk with ugly banners. But the election result shows that none of this is of any use, and our citizens are already reacting to it. As a result, the people of Ankara have approved our 5 years of service," said Yavaş, continuing his remarks as follows;
"Even though we have a majority in the council, I will make a proposal to the 8 elected mayors and one independent mayor, saying, 'Come, take the hand we are extending; the people in the municipalities you won may have given us fewer votes, but ultimately let's solve their problems together, it is no problem at all. Let's join hands and serve the entirety of Ankara together.' Those who rejected this proposal in the past have now gone to the political scrapheap; almost all of them are gone. Now, I hope the newly elected mayors will not make the same mistake, will take our hand, and we will find the chance to serve Ankara as it deserves together with 16 mayors."
