Decision from the Provincial Election Board to please the CHP candidate: Elections in Ardahan will not be repeated

In Ardahan, where the CHP emerged victorious in the March 31 Local Elections, it had been decided that the elections would be held again on June 2 following objections made by the AKP.

According to the unofficial results in the Ardahan city center, the CHP candidate and incumbent Mayor Faruk Demir received 5 thousand 49 votes, while AKP candidate Yunus Baydar received 4 thousand 875 votes.

The AKP Provincial Presidency filed an objection with the Central District Election Board for a recount of all ballot boxes and the cancellation of the election.

THE ELECTION WILL NOT BE REPEATED

The board decided by majority vote to repeat the elections based on the evidence presented by the AKP in their petitions. Subsequently, the CHP filed an objection with the Provincial Election Board.

Finally, according to the decision of the Provincial Election Board, the CHP's objection was evaluated positively, and it was noted that the election would not be repeated.

"DEMOCRACY IS LIKE THIS"

Making a statement in front of the Ardahan Municipality after the decision, Mayor Faruk Demir stated the following in his speech:

"In the elections held on March 31, 2024, the people of Ardahan have deemed us worthy of this honorable duty for the second time. Of course, it is in the nature of politics. It is in the law of political parties, and an objection was made. In the second stage of the objection process, as a result of the examinations conducted by our independent Turkish judiciary, we saw that our objection was accepted. And hopefully, we will receive our certificate of election. After receiving our certificate, we will work for a more beautiful Ardahan. Democracy is like this; there is a race, and in the end, the work for our city continues.''
