The debate within the CHP regarding the nomination process of Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner continues. Figures close to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who came to office as CHP Chairman following a court decision, have made harsh assessments regarding Güner's candidacy.

Hüseyin Can Güner had been arrested and suspended from his duties as part of an ongoing investigation. Kılıçdaroğlu had previously stated regarding Güner, "I had my doubts."

According to the Türkiye newspaper, Kılıçdaroğlu's aides argued that criteria other than merit and experience came to the fore when determining candidates in areas where the CHP is strong, and noted the following:

"The individuals who determined the mayoral candidates chose names close to them in places seen as CHP strongholds where the election was guaranteed. There were assessments that criteria other than merit and experience were prioritized during the candidate selection process."

In the same assessments, the criticism regarding Güner's candidacy became even sharper. The aides stated, "Out of dozens of candidates, the most inexperienced and least known name in the public eye was nominated. Even if you asked artificial intelligence, it would not have recommended Hüseyin Can Güner. He would have ranked only 30th out of 30 candidates."
