Reaction from Prof. Adem Sözüer to İmamoğlu: 'It has nothing to do with the law'

Criminal Law Professor Adem Sözüer made a harsh statement regarding the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Stating that the arrest of İmamoğlu and other elected mayors "has nothing to do with the law," Sözüer expressed that this action is a product of a regime of arbitrariness.

Reminding that İmamoğlu announced his presidential candidacy with the aim of "changing the regime of arbitrariness and ensuring a return to the rule of law," Sözüer emphasized that the arrest of elected officials is a political coup. Professor Sözüer stated that such arrests are a result of disregarding the decisions of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), adding, "Such arrests are a practice aimed not at the rule of law, but at eliminating political rivals."

Arresting Ekrem İmamoğlu and other elected mayors, who announced their presidential candidacy to change the regime of arbitrariness and return to the rule of law, has nothing to do with the law.
