Reaction from YENİ Party's Murat Emir to the government: AKP can never do without an enemy
YENİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir criticized the government for its politics of polarization and targeting in a social media post.
YENİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir directed harsh criticism at the AKP government in a statement on his social media account. Emir argued that the government constantly creates a new "enemy" and an "other" to manage the agenda.
Addressing recent developments in his post, Emir criticized the actions taken against rights organizations from Istanbul to Ankara, arrests in Izmir, interventions in protests, and the detention of journalists.
Emir also stated that access to the social media accounts of journalists, human rights organizations, academics, and certain institutions has been blocked on the grounds of "national security," citing Evrensel newspaper, Amnesty International, Academics for Peace, and MLSA as examples.
Referring to the arrest of journalist Selahattin Günday, Emir claimed that the legal article cited as the basis was not in effect at the time the news report was published. Emir also criticized the filing of lawsuits years later against journalist Canan Coşkun and documentary filmmaker Kazım Kızıl for their investigation into the suspicious death of Rabia Naz.
AKP can never do without an enemy; it always needs polarization. Because they have no achievements to put before the citizens, all they have is creating a new other and generating hatred through it.
At the end of his statement, Emir used the expression, "Those who cannot govern the country with their program and achievements can only survive by targeting others."
