Members of the Kemalist Thought Association protested US Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack's statement that the Ottoman millet system was the best system for Turkey by leaving a black wreath in front of the US Embassy.

ADD President Hüsnü Bozkurt stated in his address in front of the embassy that Barrack's remarks were unacceptable. Bozkurt said, "The US ambassador has overstepped his bounds by viewing the Republic of Turkey as a colony. We expect the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to declare this ambassador 'persona non grata' and deport him."
