Following Cemil Tugay's decision to join the AK Party, a harsh statement came from the CHP front. CHP Kahramanmaraş Deputy Ali Öztunç made striking allegations against Tugay in a post on his social media account.
Öztunç argued that Tugay had realized he would not be re-nominated by the CHP for the Karşıyaka Mayoralty and used the phrase, "He fled to the AKP."
A 2022 REMINDER FROM ÖZTUNÇ
Ali Öztunç also brought up an incident from 2022, when he was the CHP deputy chairman responsible for the environment. Öztunç claimed that while Tugay was the Mayor of Karşıyaka, he wanted to allocate a region between Çiğli and Karşıyaka, known as a habitat for flamingos, to Cengiz Holding for the construction of a thermal facility.
Öztunç stated that he went to İzmir during this process and told Tugay that he should abandon the decision, otherwise, an expulsion process from the party would be on the agenda. The CHP deputy stated that Tugay initially resisted but was later forced to cancel the project.

Touching upon the party convention process, Öztunç argued that the former administration knew they would not nominate Tugay again, which is why he supported the "change." Öztunç claimed that in return, Tugay was rewarded with the candidacy for the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayoralty.
In his statement, Öztunç also alleged that Tugay increased his relations with Cengiz Holding afterward, stating, "It was clear what was happening back then. I will not enter into the debate of who made him a candidate and why. The people of İzmir will surely make their own judgment and do what is necessary. However, I want this truth to be known for the sake of recording it in history."
