Request for retrial of Osman Kavala rejected
The request for a retrial for Osman Kavala, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Gezi Park trial, has been rejected by the 13th High Criminal Court. The court also did not accept the request for a reversal in favor of the law filed by Kavala's lawyer.
Osman Kavala, a businessman who has been in prison for approximately 7 years after receiving a life sentence in the Gezi Park trial, has had his request for a retrial rejected by the court.
Kavala’s lawyer, Hilal Zengin, applied to the 13th High Criminal Court following the rejection decision issued by the Ministry of Justice on July 5, requesting a reversal in favor of the law and a retrial.
According to a report by Gerçek Gündem, the prosecutor's office stated in its opinion regarding the application that Kavala’s request was no different from the previously rejected request and that it should be denied.
Acting in accordance with this opinion from the prosecutor's office, the court rejected Kavala's objection and decided that there was no basis for pursuing a reversal in favor of the law.
