Antalya Konyaaltı Mayor Cem Kotan has joined the YENİ Party following his departure from the CHP. It was stated that Kotan's party badge will be pinned at a ceremony to be held on Tuesday.
Kotan had been referred to the disciplinary board with a demand for permanent expulsion during a CHP meeting on October 1, 2026. Following this development, Kotan made a statement on his social media account and announced that he had resigned from his party.
The Konyaaltı Municipality October council meeting, held immediately after the resignation, also caused controversy. Kotan continued his duties as an independent mayor for approximately two weeks.
