Response to alleged AKP constitutional referendum plan comes from former partner

Fatih Erbakan shared his views on the claims made by former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar regarding a constitutional referendum to be held in 2026, during statements made before his party's Provincial Chairmen Meeting.

Emphasizing that the referendum issue should be handled through a public vote, Erbakan said, "We are in favor of going to the nation and asking them. We believe it would be more democratic and appropriate for this constitutional amendment and this decision to be ratified by the nation after the Parliament itself makes a decision."

REACTION TO TRUMP: "THEY GET EVERYTHING THEY WANT"

Addressing another agenda item, Erbakan leveled harsh criticism at US President Trump, stating, "We see that the US gets everything it wants, while we get nothing. Then, the President held Trump's chair... Today, it is no longer possible for the AKP and MHP coalition to oppose the impositions of global powers." Erbakan expressed that change would only be possible by changing the government.

CRITICISM OF THE JUDICIARY

Erbakan also drew attention to Turkey's decline in the rule of law rankings. Noting that according to World Justice Project (WJP) data, Turkey has fallen to 117th place among 142 countries, Erbakan said, "Countries like Angola, Niger, Madagascar, Russia, and Honduras are ahead of Turkey. The word 'Justice' is in the AKP's name, but after 23 years, there is no trace of justice left." Erbakan stated, "The government is tired, desperate, and has become the source of the problems. An urgent change is needed, and this change must be in line with the National View (Milli Görüş)."

PHOTO CONTROVERSY

Fatih Erbakan also made statements regarding the photo taken of President Erdoğan and other political leaders in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Erbakan said, "A situation developed there that was, so to speak, spontaneous. We conveyed our best wishes to the President and shook his hand. One should evaluate the President being with the other leaders sitting there as he was leaving the hall in the correct way. This is not a harbinger of any alliance."
