Retired Staff Colonel Aziz Ergen explains to 12punto: Putin is taking control of Turkey-Syria relations

12punto EXCLUSIVE

Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken a significant step that will reshape political and diplomatic relations between Turkey and Syria. According to statements made by Retired Staff Colonel Aziz Ergen to veteran journalist Tuncay Mollaveisoğlu, Putin will conduct the bilateral meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad entirely under his own control.

According to the information provided by Ergen, this critical meeting will be hosted by the Russian leader, and every stage of the process will be carried out under Putin's supervision.

The purpose of the meeting is stated to be the elimination of reactionary jihadist organizations in Syria and the facilitation of cooperation between the Syrian army and the Turkish army. In this context, the goal is to make the existing contacts between Turkish and Syrian intelligence more transparent and coordinated.

Emphasizing that the talks will be conducted openly, Ergen also stated that the structure known as the Free Syrian Army (FSA) has now completely fallen under the control of the United States.

Ergen stated, "The FSA is no longer the FSA we knew," expressing that this structure has moved out of Turkey's oversight and is operating under US control.

While these developments signal that there may be significant changes in Turkey's Syria policies, how the balances in the region will shift remains a subject of curiosity. It is noted that with Putin's intervention, jihadist organizations in the region have also begun to react against Turkey.

It is anticipated that this political and diplomatic move by Vladimir Putin could bring about significant changes in the balance of power in the region.
