Revision period in the AKP: Erdoğan’s early election plan revealed

The normalization/softening period that began with the meetings held by leaders following the March 31 Local Elections also brought with it discussions of an 'early election'.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan put an end to the 'early election' discussions during his holiday greeting with his party's organizations, drawing attention to the four-year period without elections.

It is noted that Erdoğan will never look warmly upon a possible early election “without initiating the revision process in the AKP and the government and establishing a certain order.” 

According to a report by Cumhuriyet; it is emphasized that Erdoğan “will not look warmly upon any early election decision without an improvement in the economy and the purchasing power of citizens.” It is also stated that during the four years without elections, Erdoğan will focus more on revisions as a government and prioritize development policies. It is also being discussed that he will give instructions to ministers for new investments and projects. 

‘CHANGE IN THE PARTY’

It is pointed out that while Erdoğan aims for an improvement in the economy within four years, he also wants to bring new names into the party who can produce new politics and rhetoric, and who will be liked and trusted by the public. After the local elections, Erdoğan gave a message of “change in the party,” but it was reflected in the public that the expected “change” would take place at the ordinary congress planned for 2025. While it is being discussed that work has begun for “visionary new names” in the party, it is stated that Erdoğan will also draw attention to internal and external threats against Turkey during the 2028 election process.

DOORS WILL NOT BE CLOSED TO THE OPPOSITION

It is also stated that Erdoğan “does not want to take the country to an election without providing Turkey with a new constitution.” However, it is noted that with the new constitution work, Erdoğan will also ensure the continuation of the “normalization” process in politics, and thus “wants to reach every segment of society and elevate the party to a position that appeals to all segments, just as it did in the first years of the AKP's founding.” For this reason, it is said that Erdoğan “will not close the doors” to the opposition front in the coming process. It is also emphasized that one of the AKP's 2028 strategies is “social consensus and the reduction of tension in politics, and increasing trust in the AKP again as tension decreases.”
