TV5, known for its proximity to the Saadet Party, announced that the Saadet Party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate is Istanbul MP Birol Aydın.
If he becomes a candidate, he will compete in the March 31, 2024 local elections against AKP candidate Murat Kurum, CHP candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, and Zafer Party candidate Azmi Karamahmutoğlu.
The Saadet Party will hold its Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Introduction Meeting on Sunday, January 28, at 12:00 at the Lütfi Kırdar Congress Center.
WHO IS BİROL AYDIN?
Born in 1969 in Şiran, Gümüşhane, Birol Aydın completed his undergraduate education at the Faculty of Higher Islamic Civilization at Zitouna University in Tunisia between 1992 and 1997.
Between 1997 and 2012, he engaged in commercial activities in various fields in Tunisia and Kocaeli.
He served in various positions within the National Youth Foundation and the Anatolian Youth Association.
He served as a Headquarters Executive at the International Youth Forum (IYFO) between 2007 and 2014. Since 2007, he has been serving as a Board Member at the Economic and Social Research Center (ESAM).
Having held positions in his political career such as Virtue Party Kocaeli Provincial Board Member, Saadet Party Kocaeli Provincial Chair, and Saadet Party Istanbul Provincial Chair, Aydın has been a member of the Saadet Party General Administrative Board (GİK) since 2006.
Aydın, who served as Deputy Chairman for Organization, Promotion, Civil Society, and Public Relations respectively between 2010 and 2019, continues his duty as the Party Spokesperson today.
Aydın, who was nominated as the 5th-place parliamentary candidate for the Istanbul 1st District from the Republican People's Party list together with the Nation Alliance in the 28th Term Parliamentary elections held on May 14, 2023, is married, a father of three, and speaks Arabic.
