He died by suicide after jumping from the 6th floor in Samsun: An interview and nepotism scandal emerged... They even asked which team he supports!

CHP Gaziantep MP Hasan Öztürkmen made a statement regarding 22-year-old Doğuş Can Kavaklı, who died by suicide after jumping from the 6th floor of the dormitory where he was staying in Samsun.

Öztürkmen stated that three days before the incident, Kavaklı had been eliminated from an interview for a staff recruitment position at the Asarcık District Governorate Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation, despite entering the process in first place, and that a person with a score 10 points lower had been hired instead. He said, “This is not a suicide, it is a murder. The interview committee must be investigated immediately. Doğuş Can is the latest victim of this nepotism system called an interview.”

Claiming that the District Governorate removed the interview list from its website following Kavaklı's suicide, Öztürkmen said the following:

"He announced that he had been eliminated from the interview he entered in first place three days before he died by suicide. Stating that the acting Asarcık District Governor Hakan Köksal and the District Mufti were also on the interview committee, Öztürkmen said that questions such as ‘which team do you support’ were directed at Doğuş Can during the interview. Noting that instead of Doğuş Can, who had a KPSS score of 82, a candidate named M.A. with a score 10 points lower won the interview, Öztürkmen said, “This is not a suicide, it is a murder. The interview committee must be investigated immediately. Doğuş Can is the latest victim of this nepotism system called an interview.” Öztürkmen also asked why the list of candidates who participated in the interview was deleted from the District Governorate's website.

“Doğuş Can Kavaklı was 22 years old. He had just graduated from Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University. On October 2, he ended his life by jumping from the 6th floor of the Cemal Safi KYK Male Student Dormitory, where he had gone to pick up his belongings. The death of Doğuş Can did not even make the national news. The death of our young brother was about to be forgotten when we reached information that the incident was much more than a suicide. Although the tragic event was recorded as a ‘suicide,’ a murder actually took place. So, who killed 22-year-old Doğuş Can Kavaklı, a successful and eager young man who had just graduated?

HE WAS FIRST ON THE LIST

Doğuş Can graduated from the Guidance and Psychological Counseling department this summer with a successful grade point average. He was also successful in the KPSS exam he took and received a score of 82. Relying on the high KPSS score he received to start his life and begin working, he immediately started looking for a job. In September, he saw the ‘Social Assistance and Review Officer Recruitment’ advertisement for the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation operating under the Asarcık District Governorate in the district where he lived. He applied immediately. He was certain he would be hired because he had by far the highest KPSS score among the 5 candidates who applied. The scores of the candidates closest to him were 76 and 72. The scores of the other two candidates were in the 60s band. With this confidence, he entered the District Governorate's interview and began waiting for the result. However, it did not happen as Doğuş Can expected. According to the interview result announced on September 28, M.A., who had a score 10 points lower than him, had won instead. Upon learning the result, Doğuş Can was devastated. Three days later, he ended his life by jumping from the 6th floor of the dormitory where he was staying. We met with his grieving father, İlyas Kavaklı. He cries out, saying, ‘They stole my child's life. They tore him away from this world.’ He says he will do his best to seek justice for both his only son, Doğuş Can, and the hundreds of thousands of young people like him who are victims of these interviews.

'THE ALLEGATIONS ARE BEING DISCUSSED THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT'

So, who was on this interview committee and what did they ask the candidates? We have reached very striking information on this matter. First of all, the interview committee included the acting Asarcık District Governor at the time, Hakan Köksal, District Mufti Faruk Ana, and some directors within the district governorate. According to what Doğuş Can told his close circle, irrelevant questions such as which team he supported were asked during the interview. Doğuş Can could not make sense of these questions, but considering his high KPSS score, he was certain he would be selected. In fact, according to his father İlyas Kavaklı, Doğuş had even started receiving congratulations from the residents of the district. Another important piece of information concerns the candidate selected in place of Doğuş Can. It is being discussed throughout the district that the father of M.A., who is 10 points below Doğuş and is known for his closeness to the AKP, said before the interview that “he had arranged the job through a deputy governor and that his daughter would win.”

CALLED FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INTERVIEW

Doğuş Can's death has also been brought to the judiciary. Lawyer Tufan Akcagöz, registered with the Samsun Bar Association, filed a criminal complaint with the Kavak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to determine the causes of the suicide and to reveal the responsibility of the interview committee. Following this criminal complaint regarding Doğuş Can's suicide, an interesting event occurred. The Asarcık District Governorate removed the announcement page containing the list of candidates who participated in the interview from its official website. Doğuş Can Kavaklı's name was practically attempted to be hidden. On whose instructions and why was this list removed? Or is there an attempt to cover up evidence? We will not let this incident go. We call our Public Prosecutors to duty. The interview process must be examined from beginning to end. Those who took part in the interview committee must be identified one by one, and it must be revealed what questions they asked which candidate and how they scored them. The questions asked to other candidates who participated in the interview and the answers received must be determined. It must be clarified on whose instructions the announcement page containing the list of names of the candidates who entered the interview was deleted. Because what happened is not just a suicide. This is a case of driving someone to suicide, a process of murder.

'THE NEPOTISM SYSTEM MUST BE ABANDONED'

For months, we have been announcing dozens of scandals occurring in interviews to the public with documents. This nepotism system, called an interview, has victimized hundreds of thousands of our young people and caused them to lose hope in life. Most recently, our teachers waiting for appointments rebelled against the interview results announced by the Ministry of National Education. The appointments they dreamed of with years of effort have been left to an unknown future. Doğuş Can is the latest victim of this system. The government must abandon this nepotism system as soon as possible, merit must be taken as a basis, and those who have the right must come to the position they deserve. President Erdoğan must keep the promise he made before the elections last year that ‘Interviews will be abolished.’ Do not destroy our youth, gentlemen.”
