Scandals in the country never end! CHP deputy asks Ali Yerlikaya: Was citizenship granted irregularly through housing sales?

At a time when fake diplomas are being discussed, another striking allegation has come from CHP Deputy Chairman and İzmir MP Murat Bakan. Bakan announced that a total of 2,691 foreign nationals had irregularly acquired Turkish citizenship through the sale of 555 properties.

Bringing the aforementioned allegations to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bakan submitted a comprehensive parliamentary question for Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to answer.

Murat Bakan also asked Minister Yerlikaya whether a process is being implemented to subject those who obtained citizenship with forged documents to investigations regarding national security, organized crime, or money laundering.

"You have not responded to the question I have directed to you since 2023"

In his motion, stating that he had not received responses to previous motions he had submitted regarding foreigners granted Turkish citizenship through investment, Bakan requested answers to the following questions:

"When will you end the practice of distributing Turkish citizenship through investment? Within the scope of Turkey's citizenship by investment (golden passport and golden visa) programs, how many foreigners have been granted Republic of Turkey citizenship between 2014 and 2025, broken down by year? What is the distribution by nationality?

Has an administrative investigation been initiated regarding the relevant institutions, units, and personnel within your Ministry concerning this incident, which has been reflected in the public agenda and referred to the judiciary, where 2,691 foreigners obtained Turkish citizenship through a total of 555 properties? If initiated, what are the details? If not initiated, what is the reason?

What are the nationalities, ages, and genders of the 2,691 foreigners who obtained Turkish citizenship through a total of 555 properties? Have the citizenships of these foreigners been revoked?

Have the procedures for individuals whose citizenship process is ongoing been suspended?

Has a process been implemented to subject individuals who obtained citizenship with forged documents to investigations regarding national security, organized crime, or money laundering? If implemented, what are the details? If not implemented, what is the reason?

When will you end the practice of distributing Turkish citizenship through investment?"
