SCP local election decision: “No votes for separatist, reactionary, collaborationist, and rent-seeking parties and candidates!”

The Socialist Republic Party has announced its stance for the local elections to be held on March 31. The statement, which pointed out that system parties are nominating candidates for provincial tender directorates, included the following expressions:

“Local elections will be held on March 31. System parties will fulfill their duties of concealing the essence under different guises.

Those competing as candidates of the system within the system parties are not actually aspiring to the Republic’s Mayorship, but to the general directorate of tenders and the general directorate of companies.

Those who evolved into a new process with the September 12, 1980 coup and destroyed the Republic’s populist and public-oriented municipalism have turned municipalities into a republic of subcontractors and companies, and centers of plunder.

They legalized the establishment of companies in every matter falling under the responsibility of the municipality.

They enacted laws allowing all work performed by the municipality to be given to subcontractors, known as sub-employers.

Once privatization seized the municipalities in this way, the municipalities turned into general directorates of tenders.

The election to be held on March 31 is an election of who will be the tender directors.”

This is the real truth that is being hidden from our nation.

We will voice this truth loudly throughout all our election campaigns.”

THE STATUS OF SYSTEM PARTIES AND TURKEY

The statement issued by the Socialist Republic Party included the following:

“Although this election is one where local tender managers will be elected, it is not independent of the political landscape in which the world and our homeland find themselves. We will see the true colors of parties whose economic programs do not differ from one another and which are in competition to meet the economic and political expectations of imperialist financial centers.

The political parties representing the 'Little America' process we entered after World War II have driven Turkey into a wall with their privatization programs—which liquidated the state economic enterprises created by the Republic hand-in-hand—their collaborationist policies that tied Turkey to the gates of NATO and the EU, and their debt-based economy. And they are now trapped under that wall. These parties and their executive cadres have condemned the people of Turkey, who live by their labor, to hunger and poverty while plundering the values created by the Republic and maximizing their personal wealth. The situation of retirees, workers, civil servants, engineers, teachers, and doctors is pathetic. Turkey can only emerge from under this wall through the Republic Revolution, a public-oriented planned economy, and production. There is no solution other than transforming municipalities from offices that distribute tenders to private companies back into local government units that serve the public and prioritize service to the people over profit. We will reorganize local governments within the framework of the Republic Revolution’s understanding of populism and public service.       

The March 31 local election will not only be a vote of confidence for the AKP government and its alliances, but also a test for the elements prepared by imperialist centers to prove their worth to govern Turkey in the coming period. The failure and loss of power of both elements will contribute to the struggle of the working people that will rise in the coming period.  

The data regarding the government—which, following the process that began with the co-presidency of the Greater Middle East Project and brought great troubles upon Turkey, saw its ties with the US strained by the December 17-25 operations and the July 15 coup attempt, and which until recently followed a balancing policy between two poles—now surrendering once again to the US-NATO siege and threats, and leaning toward initiatives that will bring great new troubles upon Turkey, is frightening. When this data is combined with actions that make sects and medieval reactionism dominant in all state apparatuses and reach the stage of settling scores with the Republic and the leader of the Revolution, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the resulting picture is quite grave. Turkey cannot carry this government and the Middle Ages on its back. However, the alternative to this government cannot be a government that would position Turkey against a world crushed under US hegemony.”

‘TURKEY IS THE HOMELAND OF THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE THAT SET AN EXAMPLE FOR THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD’

Turkey is not a country that has to choose between evils; it is the homeland of the first anti-imperialist war of independence and the Republican Revolution, which set an example for the peoples of the world at the beginning of the last century.

The independent, secular, populist, and public-oriented Republic we established under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is currently facing four major threats.

1. The armed threat from the U.S. and NATO bandits, with their military bases inside our country and all along our borders.

2. Separatism, which is nurtured by these imperialist bandits and embodied in the armed terrorist organizations PKK and Hezbollah—which serve the interests of the U.S. and NATO in our country and region—as well as their legal extensions, DEM and HÜDA PAR.

3. The coalition of sects united under the roof of the AKP, which has seized power on the basis of medieval culture and sectarian religious reactionism—fostered by imperialism and its local collaborators since we joined NATO in 1952—and has set out to settle scores with the Republic.

4. Collaborationist politics, which presents itself to society as a so-called opposition but has integrated its fate with imperialism and its interests in this geography.

All of these threat elements are in contact with one another to varying degrees and in various ways, in line with the interests of their true masters, imperialism. The essential goal is the continuity of the system, and these centers conduct their negotiations and alliance efforts behind the scenes in whatever way is necessary to fulfill their duties.  

Local elections serve as a tool for socialists and patriotic forces to expose these extensions of imperialism and, as much as possible, to thwart their ambitions.

NO VOTES FOR SEPARATIST, REACTIONARY, COLLABORATIONIST, AND RENT-SEEKING PARTIES AND CANDIDATES!

Under conditions where these elections have gained even more importance compared to previous years, our party will follow a Republican revolutionary line that centers on our country and our nation.

To this end;
The primary goal of our party in the March 31 local elections is to prevent separatism, reactionism, collaboration with imperialism, and rent-seeking municipalism from gaining new ground through the local elections.

No votes will be cast for any of the separatist and reactionary parties or their candidates.

Votes will not be cast for the carefully selected collaborationist and rent-seeking candidates of the so-called opposition parties outside of these groups. If there are any patriotic and pro-people candidates who have managed to pass through the meticulous screening mechanisms of these parties, they will be evaluated by our party organizations.    

All SCP provincial and district organizations will, taking into account the conditions of their respective regions, support honest Kemalist, socialist, and patriotic party or independent candidates with the priority of winning against the relevant local administration's separatism, reactionism, collaborationism, and rent-seeking municipalism; they will form alliances where they deem appropriate and work together without expecting anything in return. In places where such candidates do not exist, efforts will be carried out to expose the system of plunder.”
