Seeking justice for 6 years: President Erdoğan to meet with Emine Şenyaşar

Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons in an attack carried out by the bodyguards and relatives of former AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa on June 14, 2018, and whose other son was imprisoned, is continuing her Justice Vigil for the 4th day in front of the TBMM.

The Şenyaşar family, who are keeping watch in front of the TBMM Gate of Honor holding signs that read "justice" and expressing their desire to meet with President Erdoğan, spoke to Ceren Bayar from Duvar.  

'LET THIS PERSECUTION END'

Stating that she has not been able to go home for 7 years, Emine Şenyaşar recounted what she has been through. Şenyaşar said, "They riddled our workplace with bullets, they massacred my children in the hospital. I can no longer bear this persecution. We previously held a vigil in front of the Urfa Courthouse. They persecuted us every day. They put us in detention, they beat us. We have been living under persecution for 6 years. I have had surgery on my knees, I have had surgery on my eyes, and they are going to operate on my throat. I want my son to be released. Enough is enough, let this persecution end so I can go home."

"ERDOĞAN AND EMİNE ERDOĞAN SHOULD WATCH'

Stating that the security camera footage from the hospital is in the hands of the state, Emine Şenyaşar wants President Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan to watch the recordings as well. Şenyaşar said, "Let them see how my children were massacred inside the hospital," and added the following words:

"Why are they still remaining silent about this persecution? They have children too, they have offspring. Let them understand me. They killed my children in the hospital for no reason at all. My husband and I went to the hospital to find out the condition of our children, and they lynched and killed my husband right before my eyes. After the massacre, they destroyed all the evidence in the hospital and hid the camera recordings."

'THEY ARE WALKING AROUND IN SURUÇ'

Those who massacred my children in the hospital are walking around in Suruç right before our eyes. Why is my son imprisoned? 

'RELEASE MY IMPRISONED SON'

"At the very least, let my imprisoned son be released so he can come and stand by my bedside during my surgery. Let there be a fair trial; if my child is guilty, let him serve his sentence. As long as justice is not served, I will not forgive anyone," she said. 

WHAT WILL ŞENYAŞAR ASK FOR?

When asked what she would say to President Erdoğan during their meeting, Şenyaşar replied, "I am about to die now. The judiciary cannot make a fair decision. I want a fair trial to be held. I will say, 'I want my son to be released, I want to go into my home.'" Finally, Şenyaşar added the words, "Does Emine Erdoğan not hear my voice at all? She is a mother too."

'MINISTER TUNÇ MADE AN EFFORT BUT...'

Noting that they received a response to their request for an appointment with the President and were informed that a meeting would be arranged for mother Şenyaşar, DEM MP Ferit Şenyaşar stated that they had held two meetings with the Minister of Justice while the vigil was ongoing in front of the ministry, but that these meetings were not reflected in the media at the minister's request. Stating that Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç told him "it will be resolved" and gave him hope, Şenyaşar said, "He said, 'We will resolve it, we are talking to the court panel, we will ensure justice.' But the court panel was changed before the hearing," he said.

Expressing that Minister Tunç made a sincere effort to solve the problem but remained helpless, Şenyaşar said the following:

"The people elected me as an MP to solve this problem, to ensure justice, and so that my mother would no longer cry. Because of this, we moved our vigil to the Parliament. We are not saying 'Let the Parliament interfere with the judiciary.' There is an injustice here, there is persecution. This incident has been on Turkey's agenda for 6 years, and Emine Şenyaşar has been shedding tears for 6 years. The Parliament must also take responsibility."

'THE PRESIDENT IS PROTECTING YILDIZ'

(AKP) I have met with many MPs. Everyone is uncomfortable; their consciences are all on my mother's side. We meet with all of them here, in the lobbies. They all say, 'We know, you are right. We do not meet with that family after this incident. We do not go to their funerals, condolences, or weddings.' He is an unwanted person within the party, but the President is protecting him. His parliamentary term ended, but the President appointed him to the MYK (Central Executive Board)." 

'THE PARLIAMENT HAS A RESPONSIBILITY'

Stating that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş called them when they started the vigil in Parliament 4 days ago, Şenyaşar said, "Kurtulmuş said, 'The mother is right, but your place of protest should not be the Parliament.' But this is not true. When the incident happened, our party submitted a parliamentary inquiry and wanted the Parliament to investigate this incident. But it was rejected by the votes of the AKP and MHP. So the Parliament is also responsible. The Minister of Justice could not solve it, so we moved it to the Parliament. We do not want the Parliament or Numan Kurtulmuş to interfere with the judiciary. We want them to see this injustice and take responsibility," he stated.

'ERDOĞAN SHOULD ASK FOR FORGIVENESS FROM MY MOTHER'

Noting that they want to meet with the President, Şenyaşar said, "We requested an appointment from him. President Erdoğan only listened to his own MP, accepted the slanders against our family as data, and campaigned against our family in rally squares. The biggest reason why justice has not been served in this case is the statements he made after the incident. Because with those statements, he brought the judiciary under his domination. The most important reason we want to meet with the President is not to ensure the case proceeds on a judicial basis, but because we want justice. Let him not meet with me, let him meet with the mother, let him ask for forgiveness from the mother, let him make a statement, and we will end our protest. There is a mother whose home has been destroyed, whose children have been massacred, and whose tears have not stopped for 6 years."

APPOINTMENT TO BE ARRANGED

Stating that the Parliament Speaker's private office returned to them yesterday regarding the request for an appointment with the President, Şenyaşar said, "They told us they spoke with Presidential Advisor Yalçın Akdoğan and that an appointment would be arranged for my mother."
