Seen during Erdoğan's US visit: The Palace is considering Hafize Gaye Erkan as a 'backup minister'

Journalist Fatih Altaylı shared insider information regarding the presence of former Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan in the delegation that welcomed President and AKP Chairman Tayyip Erdoğan, who traveled to the US to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Stating that it is being discussed in AKP circles and economic circles close to the government that Hafize Gaye Erkan has "not been entirely written off," Altaylı wrote the following in his column:

"Hafize Gaye Erkan, who was at the center of criticism for giving her father an office within the Central Bank, for her father interfering in the bank's personnel affairs, and for including him in meetings with bankers, was dismissed after adding amateurish interviews and tracking the country's economy through an apartment doorman to these issues.

However, despite being dismissed, she did not leave Turkey, did not return to the US where she was a 'Star Banker,' did not abandon the Turkey she came to for the sake of the homeland by turning down millions of dollars, and did not resume her multi-million dollar business affairs where she left off.

On the contrary, she spends most of her time in Turkey, taking refuge in her father's home in Istanbul due to high rents, while continuing to throw parties at her multi-million dollar villa in Bodrum.

And government circles attribute Hafize Gaye Erkan's staying in Turkey to her being a 'Backup Minister.' H. G. Erkan has been advised 'not to stray too far.'

Because Mehmet Şimşek's inability to attract investment to Turkey, his failure to generate sufficient resources, his inability to whet the appetite of foreign investors for Turkey, and the fact that inflation is not falling fast enough were increasing criticism directed at the Minister.

If Mehmet Şimşek cannot be successful enough to extend the government's tenure, a new 'hope' needed to be brought in to replace him. And that hope was to be Hafize Gaye Erkan. The Palace administration wanted to back up Mehmet Şimşek with H.G. Erkan. Everyone close to the government knows and sees this. That is why it is not strange at all that Hafize Gaye Erkan welcomed the President in New York."
