Selçuk Özdağ says, 'I will submit a parliamentary inquiry for Fuat Oktay'

Saadet Party-Future Party Group Chairman Selçuk Özdağ made statements today in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Fuat Oktay.

Özdağ stated, "There is an allegation regarding Mr. Fuat Oktay as well. I do not believe it is true. I do not find it right for a person who has served as Vice President in Turkey to be left under suspicion. What he needs to do is disclose his assets, including those of his first-degree relatives. If he discloses this and appears before the public, he will have done the right thing. There is corruption in Turkey, and this corruption has reached the heavens."

"YOU CAN GO TO THE END, WHATEVER THERE IS"

Following Özdağ's remarks, Fuat Oktay said the following:

"It is extremely sad that things have gone so far as to bring to the parliamentary podium slanders consisting of the claims of a registered FETÖ member, a registered criminal, a registered terrorist who is wanted by Interpol. I mean, rather than the event itself, it is the bringing of the statements of a terrorist whose address is known, whose instructions are known to be given by whom, and whose FETÖ membership has been registered, who has fled Turkey and requested asylum elsewhere, to the parliamentary podium. Let me state it here. I am open to the end on any issue, whatever the issue may be, bring it on. From the day I started in public service until today, even before that, from the day I was born, my conscience is clear, and there is not the slightest doubt about this, I have no doubt. My colleagues are here too. I understand them being uncomfortable, but I had trouble understanding why you are uncomfortable.

Therefore, if you are curious about my assets, they have already been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. They are already open and available there. As long as I am in public office, my assets are transparent. If you are curious about my first-degree relatives, theirs are also transparent... If you are looking for an excuse to throw mud, you have picked the wrong person. Therefore, I have filed a criminal complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office from the very first moment regarding this. Including myself. You can go to the end, whatever there is."

"I WILL SUBMIT A MOTION TO INVESTIGATE THE ASSETS"

Upon this, Selçuk Özdağ took the podium again and said, "I did not make any slander." From the AKP benches, they asked Özdağ, "Where did this information come from?"

Özdağ said, "Does it matter who shared it? I am saying there is an allegation, you will have to tolerate it. Learn to listen first. Are you in? Let's submit a parliamentary inquiry regarding Fuat Oktay. Will you say yes? Is it a promise? I will submit a parliamentary inquiry as soon as the Parliament opens. I will submit a motion to investigate Fuat Oktay's assets, and the Justice and Development Party members will say 'yes'. I will see you too... These allegations are naturally discussed here, where else would they be discussed?"

Oktay responded to Özdağ's questions:

"Those who cannot engage in clean politics, those who have not the slightest support at the grassroots, those who go so far as to commit theft even in politics, unfortunately, seek the reasons for their existence elsewhere. You are looking in the wrong place. My conscience is clear. Bring it on to the end. If you are looking for problems, you can look in the mirror. We have no problem with being local and national. We have no problem with the fight against FETÖ. If you want to walk with those who walk with the PKK, continue."
