Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi addressed the question of "why was a National Day of Mourning not declared?" in his column today.

In his article, where he noted, "After we had 12 martyrs, a proposal to declare a national day of mourning came from the CHP and the İYİ Party," Selvi stated the following:

"THAT FEELING WAS NOT ALLOWED"

"So why was a national day of mourning not declared? The terror group carried out its first attack on August 15, 1984, in Şemdinli and Eruh. Since that date, we have had martyrs. But a national day of mourning was not declared due to PKK attacks. The PKK terror group was not allowed to experience the feeling of having forced Turkey to declare a national day of mourning. The terror group was prevented from gaining moral superiority."
