Sezai Temelli's harsh reaction to Kılıçdaroğlu over Demirtaş: 'He is not a person to be taken seriously'
DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli reacted harshly to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks that he is "not regretful" regarding the lifting of parliamentary immunities, stating, "A person who is not regretful that Demirtaş is in prison is not a person to be taken seriously by us."
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's recent remarks, "I am not regretful," regarding his support for the process of lifting parliamentary immunities in 2016, which paved the way for the arrest of HDP deputies, have sparked a new debate in politics.
Responding to questions on İlke TV, DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli reacted harshly to Kılıçdaroğlu's statements. Stating that the roots of the judicial crises in Turkey date back nearly 10 years, Temelli described Kılıçdaroğlu's latest statements as "a matter that even humor cannot accept."
TEMELLİ: "HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REGRETFUL"
Responding to the question, "Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said 'I am not regretful' regarding the issue of immunities. What do you think?" Temelli used the following expressions:
"He should have been regretful. And he should have been regretful long before it was declared null and void. I wish he could have come out and said he was regretful on the day our friends, especially Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, were detained on November 4, 2016. But he could not do that. He said, 'It is unconstitutional, but we will say yes.' Saying yes to something that is unconstitutional is a crime, first and foremost; it is a violation of the constitution. Many politicians are still in prison today because of this. Therefore, there is not much to say against such an arbitrary, political mindset."
HE ALSO ADDRESSED THE CLAIM OF A DEMİRTAŞ VISIT
Temelli also made evaluations regarding the claims that Kılıçdaroğlu would visit Selahattin Demirtaş, who is currently in prison.
Continuing his criticisms, Temelli used the following expressions:
"Süleyman Demirel has a famous saying: 'Yesterday is yesterday, today is today.' Now, the next day, Kılıçdaroğlu comes out and says, 'I am going to visit Demirtaş.' What will you say? What will you say when you sit across from Selahattin Demirtaş? 'I lifted the immunities, I said yes even though it was unconstitutional, and I am not regretful, but I am sad that you are here...' So, this now appears as a matter that even humor cannot accept."
"HE IS NOT A PERSON TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY"
Stating that as the DEM Party they do not want to take Kılıçdaroğlu's statements into account, Temelli reminded that Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları had also made a statement on the matter.
Temelli concluded his words as follows:
"Our Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları already made the necessary statement on this matter last night. We do not want to engage with him too much. Therefore, a person who is not regretful that our dear friend, comrade, and leader Selahattin Demirtaş, who has been in prison for 10 years, is in prison, is not a person to be taken seriously by us."
