Silent occupation in the Aegean! Number of Greek military bases on our islands has risen to 14
Retired Staff Colonel Ümit Yalım, former Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, stated that Greece has increased the number of military bases on our islands to 14 and that Ankara remains silent. Yalım also noted that no response was given to the petition he submitted to the Supreme Election Council (YSK).
Greece's occupation of islands belonging to Turkey continues.
Speaking to Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk, retired Staff Colonel Ümit Yalım, former Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, said that the number of military bases on our islands has risen to 14.
Yalım had applied to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) before the mayoral elections to be held on these islands and requested that they be prevented.
The YSK did not respond to the complainant regarding this application, and the Ministry of Interior did not block the elections. While Turkey was focused on the local elections held on Sunday, March 31, 2024, elections were held on October 8 on our occupied islands of İzmir Koyun Island, Aydın Hurşit Island, Aydın Eşek Island, Küçük Çuha Island, and Gavdos Island. The election results were published on the Greek Ministry of Interior's website.
PALESTINE PARALLEL
Claiming that Greece is applying a "Palestine policy" toward Turkey, retired Colonel Ümit Yalım said: Accordingly, the YSK and the AKP government are applying a Palestine policy to Turkey, and what is happening is being watched. There is no difference between Greece holding mayoral elections on our occupied islands—that is, on Turkish soil—and Israel holding elections in occupied Palestinian territories. Despite the occupation of our islands, no diplomatic note has been issued to Greece for 19 years.
Yalım reminded that no response was given to the petition he sent to the YSK and that the mayoral elections on our islands occupied by Greece were not prevented. “YSK President Ahmet Yener and a total of 11 YSK members are legally and judicially responsible for the illegal elections held on our islands. Although it was announced in open sources that Greece would hold and did hold elections on our occupied islands, the government took no measures to prevent the election and did not react to Greece after the election. The government is legally and judicially responsible for Greece holding illegal elections on our islands,” he said.
AKP GOVERNMENT REMAINS SILENT!
Yalım spoke as follows: Our islands are being occupied. Greece first opens our islands to settlement and then occupies them by deploying armed soldiers. According to data from the Greek Ministry of Interior, there are more than 7,000 registered voters and 6,000 stationed Greek soldiers on our occupied islands. The population of the islands is increasing every year. Greece has opened 14 military bases on our occupied islands. Greece, which has placed heavy weapons such as cannons, mortars, anti-aircraft, and anti-tank weapons in these military bases, has turned the barrels of these weapons toward Turkey. For 19 years, not a single diplomatic note has been issued to Greece, and no Government Directive has been given to the Turkish Armed Forces to prevent the occupation. Greece appoints governors to our occupied islands, establishes municipalities and municipal councils, holds mayoral elections, and collects taxes. Turkey is turning into Palestine step by step, and Erdoğan and the AKP governments are watching. Erdoğan and the AKP governments, who react to Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, do not react to Greece's occupation of Turkish soil.
