Sinan Oğan speaks out for the first time! "If Kılıçdaroğlu had won..."

Sinan Oğan, who made the sudden decision to support the People's Alliance—which he had criticized until that day—in the 2023 presidential elections, has spoken about the elections for the first time.

"ECONOMIC CRISIS AND POLITICAL STRIFE WOULD HAVE DEEPENED"

Speaking at the opening of the Turkey Alliance Party's Mersin Provincial Presidency, Oğan said, "Today we have seen that the Six-Party Table was not capable of governing Turkey. It is clearly evident that if we had supported the Six-Party Table candidate and helped them get elected president, Turkey would be talking about new elections these days. There would have been a crisis in the Turkish economy, and political strife in Turkey would have deepened further."

Oğan described his meeting with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the second round of the elections as follows:

Before we decided which candidate to support in the second round, we had promised that the elections would go to a second round, that Turkish nationalists would be in a key position, that we would remove the HDP from being a key player, and that we would place Turkish nationalists at the center of the elections, and that whoever the Turkish nationalists supported in the second round would win. Thank God, thanks to you, we have fulfilled all our promises. As we stated before, in the consultations we held with our base and the friends who gave us their votes and signatures—though it was not possible to talk to all of them—and in the meetings we held with the leaders, the following picture emerged: The Nation Alliance had not won a parliamentary majority and had remained 4-5 points behind the incumbent President Erdoğan in the first round of the elections. We sat down at the table with Kılıçdaroğlu, and I asked him this question, '

Kılıçdaroğlu, you did not win the majority in parliament, contrary to expectations. So, if we support you in the presidential elections and you become president, how will you work with parliament? What will you do when the decisions and decrees you send are returned by the People's Alliance majority in parliament? The country's economy has been poorly managed for the last 3 years—I stated this in 2023—and unfortunately, our economy was at a very fragile point. When I asked, 'How will you prevent the country from entering a crisis, a crisis that would arise from a conflict between parliament and the presidency?', he said, 'Unfortunately, it will not be possible to prevent this.' When I asked, 'So what is your solution?', he stated that if he were elected president, he would take the country to new elections."
