Sinem Dedetaş explains! What is the 2029 goal? What will happen to Validebağ Grove?

Running as a candidate from Üsküdar in the March 31 Local Elections, CHP's Sinem Dedetaş was elected as the first female mayor of Üsküdar, defeating AKP's Hilmi Türkmen, who had held the mayoral office for two terms, by a margin of 7.53 points.

Dedetaş, who will receive her certificate of election today at 16:30, spoke to Sözcü TV.

"VALİDEBAĞ GROVE WILL REMAIN"

Making assessments regarding Validebağ, Dedetaş said the following:

"It will be handled with special care. A workshop was held at the Metropolitan Municipality. Our volunteers were also involved. As the municipality, we will be part of the plans. We will strive to make it a greener and better-maintained grove. Establishing the City Council as soon as possible will be among our projects.

Since there were concerns in previous processes, we must carry out the new steps transparently. Our top priority plan is for that area to remain a grove.

I also met with the Validebağ Volunteers. Everyone was in agreement. We will discuss if there is anything within that strategic plan."

PARKING PROBLEM

Addressing the parking and vehicle storage issues in Üsküdar, Dedetaş continued her words as follows:

"We will definitely take very big steps to solve this. We also want to attract tourists. Above-ground areas belong to the people. We have a project to move the nice parking lot in Çengelköy underground and turn the entire area into a recreation space. 

There is a need for both temporary parking and long-term parking areas. We talked to the tradespeople; there is a need for regulation there as well. 

We have prioritized these problems one by one. We will convene the council and start working."

When asked about her 2029 goals, as citizens are already speculating about her potential for different positions and roles, Dedetaş stated that she is focused on Üsküdar, saying, "I have never made such a plan. I always focus on this: I focus on doing the position I am in at that moment in the best way possible. I had not planned that my next step would be the mayoralty. I will manage this structure anew, and I want to focus on my success here. Let us handle this successfully, and we will see how the process shapes up."

Dedetaş, who will receive her certificate of election today, also announced that the handover ceremony will take place tomorrow.
