Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made assessments regarding the snowfall that has taken the city under its influence. Stating that the snowfall will intensify especially on Thursday and Friday, İmamoğlu emphasized that IMM teams are continuing snow removal and salting operations in the field.
İmamoğlu said, “The snowfall is expected to increase in intensity this afternoon due to the effect of the wind. The harshest cold is estimated to be experienced on Saturday night. During this period, we advise our citizens to use public transportation as much as possible and not to take to the roads unless necessary.”
Expressing that the IMM has also activated winter services for homeless citizens, İmamoğlu added, “We are providing accommodation opportunities in our facilities and contracted hotels. Our efforts continue to ensure that no one is left on the streets.”
IMM Mayor İmamoğlu continued his words as follows:
"We had described the Friday and Saturday axis. The snow, which we thought would start especially in the early hours of Friday, just met with Istanbul a little earlier. A stagnant time period is being experienced right now, but our expert colleagues in Meteorology had predicted it especially regarding the snowfall around noon and afterwards until Saturday noon. Predictions continue in this way. Our citizens should not stop being cautious. We have also increased our measures."
