Soup, not budget, discussed in committee: AKP deputy invites Minister Fidan to 'arabaşı' during budget talks
During budget negotiations in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), AKP Yozgat Deputy Süleyman Şahan asked Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan when he would come to Yozgat to eat 'arabaşı' soup. The question drew reactions from opposition deputies.
As the 2026 budget negotiations concluded in Parliament with the Presidential budget, an interesting dialogue took place in the Planning and Budget Committee. AKP Yozgat Deputy Süleyman Şahan asked Minister Hakan Fidan during the discussions on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs budget, "When will you come to Yozgat to swallow some arabaşı (a soup with chicken and dough)? We want a clear date."
According to a report by Sözcü, the opposition reacted to this invitation from the AKP deputy with the words, "We are discussing the Foreign Ministry budget, what is arabaşı?" Minister Fidan, who smiled at the question, did not provide a response.
