Statement from CHP's Gül Çiftçi on the party congress investigation process: 'The prosecutor's office found no evidence'
Gül Çiftçi, CHP Deputy Chair responsible for Election and Party Legal Affairs, made a statement regarding the course of the investigation into her party's congress.
Çiftçi stated that within the scope of the investigation into the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, the prosecutor's office had sent dozens of letters to various authorities requesting information and documents, attempting to gather non-existent evidence, but failed to find any evidence whatsoever.
Here is the statement Çiftçi made via her social media account:
"It has been reflected in the press that the files prepared regarding our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, and 8 of our deputies, within the scope of the investigation conducted into our 38th Ordinary Congress—which is completely hollow and devoid of evidence—have been sent to the Parliamentary Crimes Investigation Bureau.
As the Republican People's Party, we have been meticulously conducting and following the entire process since the beginning of the investigation. Within the scope of the file, the prosecutor's office has sent dozens of letters to various authorities, requested information and documents, and attempted to collect non-existent evidence, but has not been able to find any evidence that could be the subject of a file.
From this moment on, what needs to be done is not to issue a separation decision, but to issue a decision of non-prosecution. Our party has eliminated the discussions regarding the congress and the trustee in its extraordinary congress on April 6, and has shown both friend and foe that it is united and together on the path to power.
Every attempt that ignores this existing reality is legally baseless and doomed to be devoid of political legitimacy.
We leave the perception operations directed at the Republican People's Party following every important agenda item in our country to the discretion of the public; despite all the lawlessness, we once again emphasize our determination to be the hope of Turkey and to establish true democracy for our citizens."
