Statement from CHP's Hatay candidate Lütfü Savaş in front of the YSK!

According to the unofficial results of the March 31 Local Elections, AKP candidate Mehmet Öntürk received 44.48 percent of the votes in Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, while CHP candidate Lütfü Savaş remained at 44.05 percent. 

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, along with his staff, applied to the YSK, claiming that 3,389 people who passed away in Hatay were counted as voters, and requested the cancellation of the election.

CHP candidate Lütfü Savaş, whose opponent was given the certificate of election before the objection was finalized, made a statement in front of the YSK.

Savaş said, "We expect the YSK to make a decision by this evening."

Stating that "This attitude is an illegality that shows an attempt to present the election as a fait accompli," Savaş said that many irregularities had been detected in Hatay.

Saying "It has been clearly established that votes were cast for 3,389 deceased voters," Savaş reminded that the vote difference between him and AKP's Öntürk was 2,569.

Savaş stated, "The people of Hatay have no intention of sacrificing their future. The people of Hatay are sensitive enough not to sacrifice their will to desk-bound impositions."

Giving the message "Hatay is now a personal matter for all of us," referencing the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Savaş addressed the judges at the YSK, saying, "The message of March 31 is to uphold the law. Please uphold the law, democracy, and justice."
