Statement from Hakan Fidan on Latakia

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made significant statements following the Quintilateral Security Summit held in Amman, the capital of Jordan. In addition to the host country Jordan, the foreign ministers of Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey participated in the summit.

In his speech, Fidan addressed the attacks targeting the Alawite population in the Syrian city of Latakia, pointing out that these incidents are provocations aimed at disrupting stability in the region.

"SYRIA'S STABILITY IS BEING TARGETED"

Fidan stated that they discussed the security situation in Syria, the fight against terrorism, and regional stability at the summit, saying:

"We are determined to assist the newly formed government in Syria in every aspect and to support stabilization activities. However, we cannot ignore that some propaganda carried out on international platforms also harms the region. It is necessary to cut off the path of such provocations."

Regarding the attacks in Latakia, Fidan used the following expressions:

"We see that the policy the Syrian government has been maintaining for weeks is being attempted to be derailed by a provocation. Our primary priority here is to protect the life, property, and cultural rights of the civilian population."

Minister Fidan emphasized that Turkey and the countries of the region do not support any initiative that would increase instability in Syria, and called for a joint solution.
