Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made a statement regarding the explosion that occurred at a mine in the Kilimli district of Zonguldak.
Sharing a post on his social media account, Özel expressed his condolences and wished patience for the families of the workers who lost their lives in the explosion, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
I wish God's mercy upon our laborers who lost their lives in the explosion at the mine in the Kilimli district of Zonguldak, and patience and condolences to their grieving families. I wish a speedy recovery to our injured. We have lost too many lives in mines, and too many homes have been devastated.
In his statement, Özel pointed out that deaths in mines are preventable and stated that Turkey must be saved from becoming a "country of easy deaths."
Touching upon the working conditions of miners, Özel said, "We will continue to fight for a Turkey where miners' occupational safety is ensured and where they receive the fair reward for their sweat. May we all have patience," he said.
