Statement from the Palace on 'Can Atalay': Will his parliamentary seat be restored?

Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum, regarding the reading of the Constitutional Court decision on Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) MP Can Atalay—who was convicted in the Gezi Park trial and subsequently stripped of his parliamentary status—in the TBMM General Assembly, argued: "In our system and in the Constitution, there is a procedure for the termination of parliamentary status upon the reading of a finalized conviction. There is no reverse. In other words, parliamentary status cannot be revived or restored by reading an AYM decision."

Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum, in a statement made on his X account, put forward the following views:

We said we would develop democracy through law under President Erdoğan's administration; we did what was necessary before April 16, on April 16, and afterwards, and the will for reform continues.

We said we would build and develop the law of democracy; we are making these moves under the leadership of President Erdoğan, and more comprehensive ones will be made.

Regarding a Turkey without terrorism, we have implemented the State initiative under the leadership of President Erdoğan, with the pioneering of Mr. Bahçeli.

We have announced that a very strong democracy law reform will be carried out when the goal of a Turkey without terrorism is completed, and it is seen that this progress will be achieved.

But they consider lawlessness as opposition. They practice corruption, irregularity, and illegality as politics. They are trying to destroy the law of democracy with illegitimate actions that are a new generation imperialist project.

They compare the actor of corruption and all kinds of lawlessness, the collaborator of foreign missions, with one of the greatest leaders in political history, President Erdoğan. Then they try to create space for themselves by exploiting that person.
