The Communist Party of Turkey and the Federation of Socialist Assemblies have issued a joint statement regarding Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu's candidacy for Mayor of Kadıköy. The statement declared, "We will close Kadıköy to rent-seeking and open it to the public."
The Communist Party of Turkey and the Federation of Socialist Assemblies have issued a joint press statement regarding the Kadıköy candidacy of Tunceli Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu.
The statement included the following remarks: "We must change this approach, which excludes the public's participation in local governance in any form other than voting, and which, instead of prioritizing the happiness, health, and welfare of society—particularly in the areas of infrastructure and superstructure services, workers' rights, housing, transportation, education, culture, and the arts—views municipalities as companies and structures them as profit- and rent-oriented institutions."
Highlights from the statement are as follows:
"WE WILL CLOSE IT TO RENT-SEEKING AND OPEN IT TO THE PUBLIC"
"Kadıköy is a cumulative living space where workers, science, art, and cultural institutions, as well as women's, ecological, and political circles, live together. Kadıköy is also one of the localities that has come to the forefront with its contemporary identity, where people from all 81 provinces live together. The people of Kadıköy possess the potential to implement the program we advocate with this accumulation. We believe that Kadıköy will take on this role and play a part in initiating a new era in local governance.
Discussions are ongoing with political parties and institutions that support Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu's candidacy or are in the evaluation stage. In the coming days, we will launch our local election campaign with all components of the Kadıköy People's Solidarity alliance.
Together, we will create one of the most advanced examples of populist municipalism based on communist principles in Kadıköy, through a strong people's alliance and cooperation.
We will close Kadıköy to rent-seeking and open it to the public."
