Statement from YENİ Party on Mansur Yavaş-Erdoğan meeting: 'No one should try to manufacture scenarios'
Gökhan Günaydın responded to allegations by stating that Mansur Yavaş's meeting with Erdoğan was limited to investments in Ankara.
YENİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın made evaluations regarding the meeting between Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a press conference he held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
When a journalist reminded him of Yavaş's words after the meeting, "If it has disturbed my party, I will do what is necessary," Günaydın said that the meeting should be considered within the scope of investments and municipal services on Ankara's agenda.
Stating that after the Presidential Government System, establishing contact with the central administration has become mandatory for major investments, metro projects, and credit and approval processes, Günaydın expressed that Yavaş had informed the YENİ Party Chairman before the meeting. Günaydın said, "There is no problem here either."
Opposing the drawing of political conclusions from the meeting, Günaydın stated that Yavaş continues his line of serving Ankara and made the following assessment:
“In other words, Mansur Yavaş says, ‘I will continue to follow a balance policy in this chaotic environment. I will continue to be at the service of the people of Ankara. I will not disappoint anyone. No one should try to manufacture scenarios from these.’”
Günaydın also reacted to the allegations that Yavaş would change parties. Reminding of Yavaş's statement regarding these allegations, Günaydın quoted the following words:
“And I would like to clearly state to those who try to draw political conclusions from this meeting and produce scenarios that I will change parties; it is out of the question for me to be in an attitude that will hurt, offend, or disappoint the people who love me, trust me, and have stood by me for years.”
Following this statement, Günaydın used the phrase "It is that simple." Touching upon the allegations made about Yavaş on television, Günaydın recalled Yavaş's words: "We are tired of refuting those who produce gossip behind our backs on television every day, but they have not tired of being shameless."
