Statement on the 'Congress' from Buğra Kavuncu, who resigned from his post: Emphasis on 'cadre'
Istanbul MP Buğra Kavuncu, who was nominated as his party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality candidate in the March 31 Local Elections and received 0.63 percent of the vote, had resigned from his position as Head of Organization. Following Akşener's announcement of an Extraordinary Elective Congress, Kavuncu shared a message on social media.
Following the decision of IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener not to run for office after her party's decision to hold an Extraordinary Elective Congress, the number of candidates has risen to 4.
Istanbul MP Buğra Kavuncu, who resigned from his position as Head of Organization of the IYI Party, made a post on X.
Kavuncu stated the following:
"THE GREATEST THANKS WE CAN GIVE..."
"I respect the announcement by our Chair, Ms. Meral Akşener, that she will not be a candidate at the extraordinary congress to be held on April 27. The greatest thanks we can give to our founding chair, the greatest gift we can offer, is to strengthen our party, make it permanent, and by prioritizing service to the nation through this means, make her proud.
I will continue to fight for my party to overcome this process in the strongest way possible. I see this as both a duty to the tens of thousands of organization members who have put effort into our party and a responsibility to the voters who cast their ballots for us in the general elections on May 14, 2023.
There is no other political party in Turkey that has been established in the last 25 years and achieved success to this extent. Institutions only survive with members who work selflessly for them and prioritize the interests of the institution. The greater this number, the stronger the institution becomes.
"OUR DOOR MUST ALWAYS BE OPEN TO THEM"
The IYI Party is a party founded to come to power. Therefore, it must be inclusive and embracing. Marginal approaches, rigid and dogmatic ideological rhetoric will not lead us to this goal. Because I do not think there is a void in this area in Turkish politics.
In the last local elections, voters chose between two major parties, and voters outside of this, who make up a small percentage, chose parties with a strong ideological orientation.
Cadres are very important. Being able to keep differences together directly affects the capacity and strength of the institution. Another important factor that directly affects the capacity and strength of the institution is the presence of cadres who conduct politics in an ethical manner. The departure of those who conduct politics in an ethical manner naturally saddens us all, and our door must always be open to them.
"WE WILL DETERMINE A ROADMAP"
Political structures are large organizations. Therefore, there may be groupings arising from both systemic and human relations. These are natural. As long as these groups flow into the main river like small streams, they strengthen the river. However, if they change the riverbed, that is when trouble begins. I have a broad, self-sacrificing structure that I have acted with for 7 years, which always flows into the main river and can do anything for the IYI Party. We will evaluate the final process with them and determine a roadmap.
Our beautiful country needs the existence of our party. We will act with this awareness."
