Striking claim about IYI Party's Koray Aydın: 'Together with his team...'

Turbulent days are being experienced in the IYI Party, which headed to an extraordinary congress following the March 31 Local Elections.

In the IYI Party, where news of resignations has been coming one after another, the recent visit of founding chair Meral Akşener to AKP Chair and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace has caused reactions within the party.

According to a report in the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government; Koray Aydın, who lost the leadership race at the 5th Extraordinary Congress held on April 27, stated in a statement he made before the holiday that Akşener's meeting with Erdoğan had embarrassed IYI Party members. Aydın had implicitly criticized Chair Müsavat Dervişoğlu by stating that it was essential for the party leadership to invite Akşener to make a statement.

RESIGNATION OPTION ON THE TABLE

While no statement has been made by Akşener regarding the content of the meeting so far, it is stated that Aydın will meet with his close colleagues in the coming days to chart a new roadmap and may take important decisions, including the option of resigning from the IYI Party. It is also claimed that if Aydın and his team resign, the IYI Party could enter a process of disintegration.

With the resignation of Istanbul MP Seyithan İzsiz from his party before the holiday on the grounds that it had 'strayed from its founding purposes and principles,' the number of seats held by the IYI Party in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), which was 44 in the May 14, 2023 elections, had fallen to 35. In addition, it is stated that Çanakkale MP Rıdvan Uz, who was referred to the disciplinary board with a request for permanent expulsion for demanding the removal of Akşener's photos from provincial organizations, will also resign from the IYI Party in the coming days without waiting for the expulsion process.

DERVİŞOĞLU VISITS AKŞENER

Meanwhile, IYI Party Chair Müsavat Dervişoğlu visited the party's founding leader Meral Akşener at her home in Ankara for the Eid al-Adha holiday. Dervişoğlu's wife Nahide, his daughter Zeynep Dervişoğlu, Denizli MP Yasin Öztürk, and some party members also attended the visit.
