Şükrü Genç, not nominated by CHP, to run as an independent in the elections!
Incumbent Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, who was not re-nominated by the CHP for the local elections, has decided to run as an independent candidate.
As the March 31, 2024 local elections approach, the repercussions of the candidate selection crisis within the Republican People's Party (CHP) continue.
The CHP nominated Mustafa Oktay Aksu instead of the incumbent mayor, Şükrü Genç, in Istanbul's Sarıyer district.
While Aksu's candidacy has caused controversy within the party, Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç announced his decision to enter the election as an independent candidate.
In his press statement, Genç said, "We will not harm anyone, we will not speak ill of anyone. We have always spoken kindly. But our people have a very beautiful saying: The short stick will take its right from the long stick. Let us teach a lesson in democracy in Sarıyer."
