Support for Atakum Mayor from CHP Chairman Özel

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who came to the city for the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day celebrations and the first-ever CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting to be held in Samsun, visited Atakum Mayor Serhat Türkel at his office. 

Making statements during the visit, Atakum Mayor Serhat Türkel said, “It is an honor and a source of pride to host you at the Atakum Municipality. On the 105th anniversary of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk launching the national War of Independence by stepping foot in Samsun, we are happy to host you with our brand-new municipal administration on May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. 

Welcome, all of you. I was fortunate enough to become the mayor in Atakum. I received the vote of one in every two people living in Atakum. I will work first to be worthy of this trust and then to receive the vote of two in every three people; I will not let down those who believe in me. It has made us very happy to spend May 19 in Samsun with you,” he said.

"WE WILL SUCCEED TOGETHER"

Speaking after the visit, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said, “A handover of the flag took place at the Atakum Municipality. Now, a CHP member will manage Atakum again. Our 41-year-old young friend will bring dynamism to Atakum. He will complete his 5-year term by leaving behind very important services and very important gains that will be remembered in the future. If the people of Atakum are satisfied with him, he will continue his duty; otherwise, there will be a handover of the flag as it happened before. 

But we have high hopes for Mayor Serhat Türkel and his team. We wish him success. Furthermore, this is not a place where only CHP members serve; we also wish success to the municipal council members from other political parties. We talked, and he made a commitment. His first goal is to reach two-thirds, an approval rating of 65-66 percent. He promised a process where two out of every three people in Atakum will vote for and support him due to his fair, transparent, honest, and populist municipal management, even those who did not vote for him today. 

I aim to make the Gazi’s party the leading party in Samsun. Everyone will know their responsibility and work accordingly. We will succeed together,” he said.

During the visit, Özel was accompanied by CHP Samsun Deputy Murat Çan, CHP Samsun Provincial Chairman Mehmet Özdağ, members of the party's central executive board, members of the women's branch central executive board, and party assembly members.
