CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has shared a message of support for Sedat Cezayirlioğlu, who is known for voicing concerns regarding the cyanide-leaching gold mine in the İliç district of Erzincan.
Stating that he spoke with Cezayirlioğlu's lawyer, Özel said the following:
"It is wrong for Sedat Cezayirlioğlu, who has been fighting for the environment in İliç for years, to be held in custody due to words spoken out of heartbreak.
It is not the environmentalists who should be held accountable, but those who caused this disaster.
I spoke with his lawyer, Ekrem Sefa Özdemir, and received information. We stand with the struggle of Sedat Cezayirlioğlu and all environmentalists in the region."
Yıllardır İliç’te çevre mücadelesi veren Sedat Cezayirlioğlu’nun yürek acısıyla söylediği sözler nedeniyle gözaltında tutulması yanlıştır.
