Supreme Military Council meets at the Palace tomorrow! Erdoğan's decision on force commanders
The Supreme Military Council will meet at the Palace tomorrow. All eyes are on the status of the three force commanders whose terms are expiring. According to information obtained, Erdoğan is expected to maintain the current command echelon.
The Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) will meet tomorrow at the Palace under the chairmanship of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This year's meeting coincides with a period in which critical decisions will be made following amendments to the Turkish Armed Forces Personnel Law.
In line with the new regulations, 75 generals and admirals will be able to continue their duties in their current ranks for another year, based on a decision to be taken by a two-thirds majority.
NO MAJOR CHANGES EXPECTED IN THE COMMAND ECHELON
The meeting's agenda includes promotions, appointments, retirement files, and extensions of terms of office. Looking at the current picture, no major changes are expected in the command echelon. The term of Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak already continues for another two years. However, the terms of Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Air Force Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, and Land Forces Commander General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu have expired. It is anticipated that Erdoğan will use his authority to extend the terms of these three individuals by one year.
At last year's YAŞ meeting, 23 generals and admirals were promoted, and 77 colonels were elevated to the rank of general or admiral. The terms of 34 generals and admirals were extended by one year, and those of 455 colonels by two years. 31 generals and admirals were retired. Following these developments, the number of generals and admirals in the TSK had risen from 281 to 327.
It is stated that the effects of the new regulation in the personnel law will be seen for the first time with the decisions to be taken this year. In particular, the ability of 75 generals and admirals to remain in their current positions without waiting for a rank promotion indicates that the current balance within the TSK will be preserved. This situation is expected to further increase the number of generals and admirals.
