Suspect who killed former YRP mayor arrested

E.Ş., who was detained on charges of killing former Yeniden Refah Party (YRP) Balışeyh District Mayor Hilmi Şen and his private bodyguard Mikail Çelikkol, has been arrested by the court.

The police procedures for E.Ş., who was detained for shooting and killing Şen and Çelikkol and injuring 2 others, have been completed. 

The suspect, who was transferred to the Kırıkkale Courthouse under security measures, appeared before a judge and was arrested and sent to prison.

It was learned that the suspect E.Ş., who is Mayor Şen's cousin, stated in his police testimony that Mayor Şen had promised him a job before the election, but that this promise was not kept. E.Ş. claimed that he encountered Şen while going to his house to get his mobile phone on the day of the incident, that he went to him to talk on his way back, and that the incident occurred during an argument. 

WHAT HAPPENED?

The suspect E.Ş. had shot and injured Hilmi Şen (50), Mikail Çelikkol (40), Ömer Şengül (42), and Koray Kaya (45) in the TOKİ housing area of the district yesterday, and one person was also injured after falling. Hilmi Şen and his bodyguard Çelikkol, who were taken to the Yüksek İhtisas Hospital, could not be saved despite medical intervention.

The suspect E.Ş. had been detained by police teams.

Şen, who was elected mayor from the Yeniden Refah Party in the local elections on March 31, 2024, had resigned from his party in July.
