Tension between Varank and Arslan in Industry Commission

During the election of commission members to serve in the second term of the 28th Legislative Year at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, tensions rose in the Committee on Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology.

A tweet by Committee Chair Mustafa Varank, in which he used the term "thief" in reference to Ekrem İmamoğlu, was harshly criticized by CHP İzmir Deputy Ednan Arslan.

Arslan stated that Varank's remarks violated the presumption of innocence, saying, "It is unacceptable for someone who has served as chair in this commission to use such expressions regarding a matter where the judicial process has not even begun."

Addressing Varank, Arslan said, "If you are looking for a thief, you should look beside you, to your right, and to your left."

"CALLING SOMEONE A THIEF IS NOT AN INSULT"

Responding to Arslan's criticisms, Varank remarked, "Calling someone a thief is not an insult."

Following these words, Arslan continued his reaction, saying, "People have families; fear God, you are violating the rights of others."

Varank replied, "I fear God, don't you worry." Arslan continued his criticism of Varank, asking, "How can you pass a judgment that the prosecutor has not yet given?"

After the debate subsided with the intervention of other commission members, the committee proceeded with the elections.
