Tensions rise between the 'null and void' CHP and Mansur Yavaş

Discussions continue within the CHP following the meeting between Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Faik Öztrak, holding a press conference at the TBMM on behalf of the "null and void" administration formed after the court ruling, responded to journalists' questions regarding Yavaş's statements.

In a statement made after his meeting with Erdoğan on September 9, Yavaş pointed to potential reactions from CHP and İYİ Party circles, saying, "If both sides are uncomfortable, I would not hesitate to do what is necessary. However, no such discomfort has reached me."

Responding to a question about these remarks and the Ankara Mayor's stance on the anniversary of the CHP's founding, Öztrak criticized the fact that the Metropolitan Mayor was not present at Anıtkabir on September 9.

The absence of the Republican People's Party Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality during our visit to Anıtkabir on the 103rd anniversary of our party's founding is a great disappointment for me. It is truly a great disappointment.

Öztrak also evaluated Yavaş's statement with an emphasis on "threats." Stating that "The Republican People's Party is not a party that can be moved by threats or intimidation," Öztrak said he would leave the judgment regarding Yavaş's words to the public.

During the press conference, allegations of some CHP-run municipalities switching to the AK Party were also brought up. Öztrak argued that it is unacceptable for the ruling party to attempt to transfer municipalities entrusted to the CHP by voters during local elections by using judicial power.

Öztrak stated, "The nation has entrusted the municipality to our party," and expressed that this situation raises a debate about "respect for the national will." Addressing the internal divisions and transfer discussions within the party, Öztrak stated that the CHP is "standing tall."

Regarding questions about Yavaş's potential political choices, Öztrak emphasized that he could not speak on behalf of the Ankara Metropolitan Mayor. Öztrak stated that they had not received any information that Yavaş would switch to another party, adding, "There is no other information beyond the statement made by Mr. Yavaş."

Responding to a question about whether there would be a meeting between Kılıçdaroğlu and Yavaş, Öztrak said, "Currently, our Ankara Metropolitan Mayor is the Republican People's Party's Mansur Yavaş. Why wouldn't there be a meeting?"
