Tevfik Göksu responds to the question of whether he will run for IMM: 'We will send İmamoğlu on vacation'

Turkey is heading toward local elections. While alliance discussions continue within the opposition, the AKP aims to win back the metropolitan municipalities it lost in 2019, primarily Istanbul and Ankara.

In this direction, there is curious anticipation regarding which name the AKP will nominate in Istanbul.

Behind the scenes, names being mentioned for the AKP's IMM candidacy include Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, and former Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, along with Esenler Mayor Tevfik Göksu.

WILL GÖKSU RUN FOR IMM MAYOR?

Responding to the question, "Will you be a candidate for IMM Mayor?", Göksu said:

"Our political ethics advise us not to make calculations about our future and career. We come from such a tradition. The performance, effort, and labor we have put forth are evident. We will see how the process unfolds. We will all focus on and follow the decision that our President will make."

“IN 2024, ISTANBUL WILL SAY ‘ISTANBUL AGAIN’”

"I have been putting in the effort for 4.5 years; I am the IMM AK Party Group Deputy Chairman. I am the political representative of the AK Party group. While doing this work, we must be present with our labor. I believe this: In 2024, Istanbul will say 'Istanbul' again. And hopefully, they will bring an AK Party brother of ours there to say 'Istanbul' once more. Istanbul naturally thinks about this. A mother naturally thinks about the difficulties she faces while taking her child to school in the morning. And everyone knows that the IMM is running on the legacy left by the AK Party today. Because there is not a single new investment or vision."

"Can you imagine: The word 'Republic' is in the name of the Republican People's Party, right? Everyone knows that 2023 is the 100th anniversary of our Republic, right? One would put forward a claim. One would say, 'I am a CHP mayor. At the very least, let me do something very important for Istanbul in the 100th year and leave a work that will remind people of the 100th year,' right? Our political ethics is not about aspiring to a position. In 2024, we will hopefully send Mr. İmamoğlu on the vacation he loves so much and says suits him very well. Let us see what the Lord wills; whatever He wills, He does it beautifully."
