The AKP delegate detail in the TBB election won by İmamoğlu! 'The vote margin surprised the ruling party as well'
It has been stated that AKP mayors also voted for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was elected President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB).
The Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB) presidential election was won by the CHP candidate, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
İmamoğlu received more than double the votes of his rival, Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç.
When the distribution of delegates is taken into account, it emerged that AKP mayors also voted for İmamoğlu.
While the TBB has 868 delegates, the CHP secured a majority on its own with 448 delegates.
However, İmamoğlu exceeded the CHP's delegate count by a margin of 67, being elected with 515 votes. The ruling party-backed AKP candidate, Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, was able to receive 250 votes.
According to a report by Başak Kaya from Sözcü, this 67-vote margin also includes the influence of the IYI Party, DEM Party, and YRP. However, it was stated that AKP mayors also supported İmamoğlu.
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek said, “We see that more than ten AKP mayors voted for İmamoğlu. The vote margin surprised the ruling party as well.”
