The 'Communist Mayor's' new location has been decided! SMF announces

It has been determined where Tunceli Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, known to the public as the 'Communist Mayor,' will be nominated in the local elections to be held on March 31. Maçoğlu, who will enter the elections under the TKP umbrella, will be nominated from Kadıköy.

Maçoğlu was elected mayor of Ovacık in 2014 and Tunceli in 2019. Maçoğlu, a member of the Socialist Assemblies Federation (SMF), is now coming to Istanbul. Maçoğlu, who will again enter the elections as a TKP candidate, will be nominated as the mayoral candidate from Kadıköy. The SMF announced the decision. The statement included the following expressions:

In our previous statement, we had decided on the situation of our comrade, Dersim Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, regarding his candidacy for a third term and shared it with the public.

At the current stage, our institution, considering all aspects and dynamics of the process, as well as the suggestions and demands of our alliance forces and our people; has taken it as a responsibility to spread the ownership and positive impact created in the masses by the "Communist Mayor"—in the face of rent-seeking, plunder, and cronyism; and through our program of transparent, democratic, and populist local governments—to the entire country for the common interest of our peoples. In this sense, as a result of our consultations with democratic, left-socialist institutions, we have decided that our comrade Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu will enter the local elections in Istanbul's Kadıköy district as the joint candidate of democratic, left-socialist forces under the umbrella party of the TKP.

The finalized candidacy of our comrade Fatih will be announced to the public with a declaration as soon as possible, in line with the joint planning of democratic, left-socialist institutions.
