The 'Erdoğan' era in the office of Burcu Köksal, who switched from CHP to AKP: Atatürk's portrait removed

Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal, who resigned from the CHP to join the AKP, has returned to the spotlight following a change of portraits in her office at the municipal building. In the room where Köksal hosts citizens and guests, it was observed that portraits of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have replaced the portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk that previously hung on the wall.

Köksal, who served as a member of parliament for four terms for the CHP and held the position of CHP Group Deputy Chairperson, left her party in May. Köksal joined the AKP in a ceremony where President Erdoğan pinned the party badge on her.

Burcu Köksal and her guests are seen sitting in the municipal office with a portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on the wall.

Competing as the CHP candidate in the March 31, 2024 local elections, Köksal was elected as the first female mayor of Afyonkarahisar with 50.73 percent of the vote. The change made by Köksal, who has targeted the opposition in statements following her switch to the AKP, in the municipal reception room has also become a subject of political debate.
