The IMM indictment puzzle in the ruling party! Evidence insufficient, statements inconsistent
Journalist Murat Ağırel stated that the evidence in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) indictment is weak, noting that "even ruling party circles have not been convinced by this indictment."
Journalist Murat Ağırel evaluated the indictment prepared regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). Ağırel stated that the indictment is not based on strong evidence and that many allegations that surfaced in the public eye during the initial stages of the investigation have not been verified by official documents.
He also pointed out that the statements of secret witnesses contain inconsistencies. Ağırel noted that the shortcomings in the indictment and the inclusion of incorrectly identified suspects in the file are among the elements that have raised suspicions, particularly within ruling party circles.
IT IS STATED THAT RULING PARTY CIRCLES ARE APPROACHING THE INDICTMENT WITH SKEPTICISM
In his statement, Murat Ağırel said, "Whoever commits corruption must be held accountable, but this investigation cannot be limited only to the year 2019, as if everything before that has been cleared."
Emphasizing that the damages caused by some individuals accused of corruption should be recovered with interest, Ağırel added, "It has emerged that names like Murat Kapki and Eyüp Subaşı caused public loss through fake invoices. However, the evidence regarding a criminal organization and its leadership in the indictment is quite weak."
INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE AND INCONSISTENT WITNESS STATEMENTS
Ağırel stated that the evidence in the indictment is not strong enough and that some allegations have been completely debunked. He expressed that some information announced to the public during the initial phase of the investigation was not verified by official documents. Furthermore, he emphasized that the inconsistencies observed in the statements of secret witnesses undermine the credibility of the investigation.
Murat Ağırel said that there is a widespread view that the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality indictment could be used to create a political perception. He noted that the deficiencies in the content of the indictment strengthen the impression in some circles that this file serves the purpose of a political operation. Ağırel drew attention to the insufficiency of the evidence, stating, "It is clearly seen that even names close to the ruling wing do not find the indictment convincing."
